ABOUT US

The Charles Annette Redeemed Empowerment (C.A.R.E.) Scholarship Foundation is a nonprofit organization.

MISSION

Our mission is to inspire, empower, and support post-secondary bound students who demonstrate resilience in the midst of adversity, who reflect dedication to leadership and community, and who would not ordinarily qualify for a scholarship due to not having A’s and B’s.

VISION

Our vision is to provide scholarships for post-secondary bound high school students in need of financial support that come from our traditional and public inner city schools in Providence.

What’s so special about this foundation?

This C.A.R.E. foundation is in honor of my late parents, Charles and Annette Jackson who both died from cancer. My late parents did all they could to support their 4 daughters and 2 sons academic endeavors. Upon retiring from the Navy in 1976, after 20 years in service, my parents moved our family from Key West, Florida to Providence, Rhode Island since they both felt called to Zion Bible Institute and into the ministry. For several weeks after my family’s arrival in New England we shared an apartment with large Dominican family in Hartford Park Projects.

We came to RI without knowing anybody. Sometime later we moved into our own five-bedroom apartment in the same development. While in our new home my parents began attending Zion Bible Institute full time. For their first year of schooling we had a live in babysitter. Due to my parents’ faith in God, hard work, determination, and perseverance they both graduated from Zion Bible Institute (Z.B.I) in 1979. From both of my parents, I learned to put my faith and trust in the Lord. My strong work ethic, determination, and perseverance I also inherited from my parents.

It would be an honor to my parents’ memory to be able to extend a hand up to students in need. Thus, the C.A.R.E scholarship foundation is a continuation of my parents’ legacy. This scholarship is meant to offer post-secondary high school graduates an opportunity to gain empowerment by providing financial support and assistance in reaching their educational endeavor
